The Eden Project Dry Tropics Biome

The brief for this third climatic enclosure required the highest possible light levels in order to grow plants from desert regions. This led to a solution that differed from that of the previous biomes at Eden. Parallels may be drawn with nature in the way that two similar organisms in different environments will often evolve profoundly different forms.

To optimise the light levels in this Biome, key main structural elements are sited around the perimeter and a polymer membrane roof is supported on a fine web of tension wires. The architecture is thus shaped by the environment it encloses.
