Abalone House

The Abalone House uses a form of construction that is very similar to the microstructure of abalone shell in which multiple layers of calcium carbonate discs are held together with a polymer mortar to produce an incredibly strong material. While at a chemical level it is almost identical to blackboard chalk, through its microstructure it achieves 3000 times the toughness. We predict that the Abalone House could be built with approximately 50% of the material of a conventional approach.
